Horni Mala Upa Horni Mala Upa is located 1 108 m above sea level. The mountain village lies above the Mala Upa river valley and it is a typical mountain settlement with preserved flora, meadows, pastures, forests, fresh air and water. Tourists appreciate the important border crossing to Poland – Pomezni Boudy, in the upper part fof the village. The highest point of the settlement is Snezka (1602 m above sea level), lowest point lies 720 m above sea level. Former inhabitants lived off beef-raising, logging, ore and arsenic mining and also sugar contrabanding from neighbouring Silesia.
Main advantages are original cottages and beautiful nature that attracts to visit thousands of tourists and sportsmen in summer and winter. Horni Mala Upa - historyLogging, iron ore and arsenic mining in Horni Mala Upa dates back to the 16th centry. The iron ore was processing in Pec pod Snezkou. In the 17th and 18th century rose cabin building. The lower part of the settlement - Mohornov Mill visited emperor Josef II. in 1779. The church of St. Peter and Paul (975 metres above sea level) was built with his support in 1788-1789 and belongs to churchs at the highest elevation in the Czech Republic.Horni Mala Upa – tourist attractionThe resort is located in the quiet and smokeless landscape of the Giant Mountains National Park, near the Pomezni Boudy (Pomezni Cottages), about 200 m from the border crossing to Poland. Surroundings offers many possibilities for hiking trips, cycling and mushroom-picking. One chair lift goes from Velka Upa to the Portas Cottage.
