Janske LazneJanske Lazne is situated 519 m above sea level and it is one of most important ski centres in the Czech part of the Giant Mountains. Janska Lazne is a spa town with remarkable history and spreads out on the foothill of Cerna mountain (1299 m above sea level). The town is world-famous through treatment of polio consequences and treatment of locomotive organs deseases. The town Janske Lazne became an important sports and recreation resort thanks new cableways, ski lifts and cross-country tracks. For families with children and seniors is it well equipped relax zone and starting point for trips to the surroundings. The top of Cerna mountain is connected with the town Janske Lazne by the cabin funicular and it is a popular starting point of hiking and cycling trails.

Janske Lazne - history

According to one of legends, Jan from Chockov – varlet of the company of Albrecht from Trautenberg und Zacler, found a warm stream in 1006. The spa founder was Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg who built several new spa buildings in 1677. There are 30 radioactive, thermal and mineral springs in the spa complex. The Renaissance colonnade with secession elements from the year 1893 and the well-known Krakonos statue are situated in the town centre of Janske Lazne.

Janske Lazne – tourist attraction

There is a new swimming-pool complex in Janske Lazne (open for public every day in the afternoon). Milk farm SOSNA Vlasske Cottages – crossroad of streets Velka Upa - Cerna Mountain - Pec pod Snezkou (contact 499 736 470) beef-raising, horses, milk processing, milk products sale (yogurts, flavoured milk + home-baked cakes and pies), sitting in front of the house. In Janske Lazne, there is the 1st Giant Moutains cycling nature trail for public which is 16 km long and goes along forest roads of Cerna and Svetla Mountain. The trail offers wonderful views to the main ridge of the Giant Mountains with its dominant – Snezka Mountain. The upper station of cablecar is an ideal starting place. If you go by the cableway, you will stay away from 6 km long with rise of 600 metres. The nature trail Cernohorske raseliniste (Black Mountain peat-bog) was opened for hikers. Surroundings of Janske Lazne offers following walk paths for visitors - Klaus valley, spa paths on the Stredni hreben (Middle ridge) and in the Rudolf valley.

Ski centre Cerna hora – Janske Lazne

Ski centre Cerna hora (Black Mountain) – Janske Lazne comes through a dynamic development today. Within the categorization of ski resorts in the Czech republic, Janske Lazne belongs together with Spindluv Mlyn, Pec pod Snezkou and Rokytnice nad Jizerou to the 5-stars resorts.Terrains for downhill skiing are located on the southern and south-eastern slopes of Cerna and neighbouring Svetla Mountain. Skiers can use 2 cablecars and 12 ski lifts of different types and lengths. The ski centre is equipped with ski slopes3 km long which belong to the longest in the Czech republic. Main downhill slopes are equipped with artificial snow-making machines. Skiing terrains are suitable also for families with children because the area has ski pistes from training-meadows to advanced downhill courses. There are 50 km prepared cross-country routes and 3,5 km long sledge route „Cernohorska sankarska cesta“.
