The first exposition was installed at the turn of the century in the former girl's school. Later the museum was moving several times. For a long time museum used rooms in the stalls of old town hall. Since 1953 the museum has been situated in the former castle of Harrach's counts. In 1929 the beginning of today's three expositions was established: historic-ethnographical, skier's exposition and gallery. But it is possible to expand them by the time, when the museum is moved to the castle. The museum is fixated to history and ethnography of the west part of the Giant Mountains, to origins and progress of Czech skiing especially. The gallery pays attention especially to production of Frantisek Kavan (1866-1941). Since year 1979 the museum is a part of Museum of the Giant Mountains of Management of Krkonose national park.
