The mountain centre Rokytnice nad Jizerou is situated 520 m above sea level. Location of this important town in the west Giant Mountains – surrounded with hills from all sides, in valley of the Jizera river, Hutsky, Cerny and Rokytnice creek. The town Rokytnice nad Jizerou developed from settlements Horni and Dolni Rokytnice, Rokytna, Horeni Domky, Hrusov, Zakouti, Hledsebe, Vilemov, Hranice and Studenov. Rokytnice nad Jizerou is a holiday, tourist and sport centre in the west Giant Mountains. The centre is located in a picturesque valley with the dominant of the Studenov and Kotel ridges (1434 m above sea level). Local landscape offers excellent skiing and hiking trails. There are 24 ski lifts, one chair lift and a lot of hiking winter trails on the surrounding hills.
Rokytnice nad Jizerou - history
Rokytnice nad Jizerou belongs to the places in the Giant Mountains which was already settled in the half of 16th century. The first inhabitants mined wood and also copper, slug and silver. The others started a little bit later with hand weaving. In 19th century was the home weaving pushed back by manufacturing. Important is also local glass tradition. Glassworks have been in operation since16th century. Also the famous glass family Schuller worked here. To Rokytnice belong settlements Frantiskov, Studenov and Vilemov. Rokytnice nad Jizerou is touristic and sport centre in the west Giant Mountains. The centre is located in a picturesque valley with the dominant of the Studenov and Kotel ridges (1434 m above sea level). Local landscape offers excellent skiing and hiking trails. There are 24 ski lifts, one chair lift and a lot of hiking winter trails on the surrounding hills.
