Krkonoše from the saddle of a bicycle: take a ride on the most beautiful cycle paths in the Krkonoše Mountains

  • Venue: Harrachov

The Elbe Trail is one of the most popular long-distance cycling routes in Europe and is part of the EuroVelo network of European cycling routes. If you want to travel to the source of the Elbe, take a trip from Vrchlabí - Herlíkovice, where the marking of the Elbe Trail / Cycle Route No. 2 ends. And ends directly at the chairlift (lower station) to Žalý. Take the cable car to Žalý (1,019 m above sea level, the cable car transports bicycles) and continue along the K10 route to Benecko, and then along the K13 route to Třídomí. From here, take the K11 route to Špindlerův Mlýn. From Špindl, take the chairlift to Medvědín (it also transports bicycles). Following the K13A route, you will connect to Masaryk Road (K13) from Medvědín and you will continue to Vrbatova bouda to Labská bouda. There it is possible to store the bike and walk the remaining 500 m to the source of the Elbe (1,386 m above sea level) on foot along a marked path on foot.

You can go back to Vrchlabí via Horní Mísečky to Benecko along the Krkonoše K 13 cycle route and further via Křížovky to Vrchlabí. In the main tourist season (June-September) it is also possible to use the Krkonoše cycle buses (green line) for transport from Vrchlabí to Špindlerův Mlýn.

The first cycling nature trail in the Giant Mountains is near Černá hora

Would you like to bike to the mountains, but don't want to pedal uphill? Then a relaxed track is ideal for you, which your children can playfully manage. To facilitate and gain altitude meters, you can use the cable car, which will take your bike to the top of Montenegro for free as your luggage.

The ideal starting point is the upper station of the Janské Lázně - Černá hora cable car, where you can avoid unpleasant climbs. There are 9 thematic information boards installed on the trail route, on which cyclists will find interesting information about the nature and history of the Giant Mountains and about life in the mountains. The easy route measures 16 km and can be easily managed by families with children. More capable athletes can climb the nature trail along the bike paths from Pec pod Sněžkou, Horní Maršov, Janské Lázně or Velká Úpa. Following the same routes, they can easily return to the surrounding mountain resorts. The trail is open from June 1 to October 15.

Bike trip from Pec to Vrchlabí: Long descent from Hnědý vrch

A trip for all cool people who do not swallow kilometers, but like to walk through nature in peace. The route, which starts in Pec pod Sněžkou and ends in Vrchlabí, measures 21 kilometers. A bicycle bus will take you to the starting point, which usually runs from the end of May to the end of September.

Let yourself take the cable car to Hnědý vrch and continue along the cycle route to Lesní bouda, on cycle route no. K1B. At Kotelského brook, turn onto K1D to Dolní Dvůr. The route continues to Lánov and further to Vrchlabí.

The Terex road in Harrachov or across the Three Hills

Lovers of natural beauty will enjoy the trip around Harrachov. It is not particularly demanding, so even children can playfully handle it. The 23 km long route leads along an asphalt surface and part along Mumlava to Krakonoš's breakfast, then heads towards Vosecká bouda, but after a while it turns onto the Terex road. It is also known as Janouškova or Cesta over three hills - the trio of gentle climbs are alternated by short, gentle descents. The name Terex is reminiscent of a dozer (tractor with a moving blade), which was used in the construction of the road and proved its worth. Oldřich Janoušek was an employee of a forest plant and an expert on the Krkonoše Mountains, a popular narrator and a well-known representative of the Krakonoš family in Harrachov.

The road with beautiful views of the western part of the Giant Mountains bypasses the contour line of Bílý and Mrtvý vrch. Above the hunting lodge Alfrédka, it turns onto the slopes of Jakšín, Kamenec and Luboch. It ends at the main road E3 from Harrachov at customs. From the customs house you will continue down the hill to Harrachov.

Trip on both sides of the river Jizera

An undemanding trip is intended primarily for lovers of beautiful nature, who like to enjoy the freedom in an unspoiled landscape. The starting point of the trip is the railway station Harrachov. The road leads along the contour line, so almost along the plain high above the river Jizera. In clear weather, beautiful views of the Czech side of the mountains open up from here.

A gradual descent will lead us to the mountain settlement of Orle, the only settlement far and wide. After gaining new strength, we will head back to the Czech side. The road passes down the hill along a rocky forest road and approaches the mighty river Jizera. Soon the river will reach the places where the wooden bridge stands. It has always stood here and formed a link between the settlement of Jizerka and the Polish side of the mountains. From the border bridge, a climb of about 1.5 km awaits you to the settlement of Jizerka, where it is possible to replenish lost forces. These will be needed for the next ascent around the mountain Bukovec along the red sign at the crossroads Jizerka - Mořina, where we turn left to the red tourist sign and cycle path No. 3020. From now on Valley. At the end of the trip you have to overcome another short climb to Harrachov's Mýtiny.

By bike along the Krakonoš route from Vrchlabí to Pec

The trip around the Krakonoš estate is very demanding, the elevation gain reaches 1775 m, and the route measures a total of 60 km. The starting point is Vrchlabí from where you will climb to Chalupa Na Rozcestí and then a short walk to the cottage Výrovka, at elevation 1357, which is the highest point of the trip.

Then a beautiful descent along the Devil's Stairs to Pec pod Sněžkou awaits you and on road no. 296 you will reach the beginning of Velká Úpa. From here you will climb again, this time around Černá hora near Janské Lázně, to the local Václavák. You can refresh yourself in Studánka pratelství, which lies at the second highest point of the route 1164 m. From here you will head back to Vrchlabí along the K1B through the Čistá valley and along the Mountain road. This will take you to Luisa's Valley and the Lower Court. By post you will drive back to Vrchlabí.

For beautiful views from the valley to the ridges of the Giant Mountains

Our route starts in Špindlerův Mlýn, from where you go out of the center along the K 11 cycle route in the direction of Labská and Bedřichov. A beautiful way along the contour line will take you to the popular Rovinka crossroads with seasonal refreshments. From here, continue along the K10A cycle path uphill to the Přední Žalý lookout tower, which offers an excellent view.

Following the red tourist sign, you can continue to the Benecko-Zlatá vyhlídka crossroads, where you will connect to the road that will take you again to the Rovinka crossroads. Here, however, you will turn left along the K10 route and continue to the main road No. 286, which will take you around the Jizerka river to Horní Mísečky. Here the steepest ascent awaits you, to Vrat's hut, above which is the mound of Hanče and Vrbata. The red tourist sign and the K1A cycle route will take you back to Špindlerův Mlýn from Horní Mísečky. This is a rocky road with a large slope, so watch out for the steep descent!
