Some paths are temporarily closed in the Krkonoše National Park

  • Venue: Špindlerův Mlýn

The reason for the seasonal closure of specific hiking trails or their sections in the Krkonoše National Park is the fact that they lead through places of regular occurrence of sensitive species, especially the black grouse, which is subject to KRNAP protection and also the Krkonoše Bird Area. The aim of this measure is primarily the protection of black grouse and their regularly used towers in the most sensitive period of their flow and reproduction.

The seasonal closure in this particular period of time will help protect this species, especially in its sensitive period, with the least possible restriction of visitors to the Giant Mountains. However, the prerequisite is strict compliance with these seasonal closures, as well as compliance with the year-round ban on movement outside the reserved roads and routes in quiet areas.

Where specifically is movement restricted on the Czech side of the mountains?

Yellow tourist path in the direction from Zadní Rennerovky to Hanapetrov Pasek, leading along the border of a quiet area in the section Pod Zadním Rennerovkami to the cycle route Liščí cesta
Green hiking trail in the section Vosecká bouda to Labská louka

  • Blue hiking trail (Davidova) in the section of Davidova Bouda (turn-off from the slope in front of the Dírečka stream, turn-off of cycle route 15A) to the crossroads above Erlebachova bouda
  • Yellow tourist path from Tetřeví Bud to Liščí louka in the section Černý potok to Liščí louka (crossroads), leading partly along the border of the quiet area
  • Winter barred road from Malý Šišák to Luční bouda, in the section Pod Malým Šišákem to Luční bouda
  • The sidewalk of Bishop Doubrava in the section from the border of the quiet area above the hunting lodge Jan in the direction below Jelenka and the road turning south from it to Niklov Vrch
  • Yellow hiking trail in the section Václavák (educational trail) to Pěticestí pod Černou horou near Janské Lázně
  • Nature trail Černohorské rašeliniště in the section Nad Pardubických Boudami - lookout tower - U Hubertovy vyhlídky - Velké Pardubické Boudy
  • Green tourist path from Tetřeví to Hrnčířské Boudy, in the section Tetřeví Boudy (border of the quiet area) to Čistá / stream
  • Green tourist path (Jiří Novák) in the section of the concurrence of the border of the quiet area with the state border with Poland (section of the Hřebenovka from Horní Malá Úpa, Pomezní Bud - Pod Lysičenskou boudou)
  • Yellow hiking trail in the section Kolínská bouda to Slatinná stráň

Most of the seasonally closed routes are bypasses on the neighboring tourist marked paths. A complete list with a precise description of the restrictions, including a detailed technical justification, is given in the individual measures of a general nature on the website krnap.cz/archiv/.

Restrictions on movement on the Polish side of the Giant Mountains

A similar measure as the Czech National Park has been taken for many years by the headquarters of the Polish Karkonoszów National Park. It closes four routes from April 1 to May 31:

  • Green hiking trail from the crossroads Ruins schoroniska im. Bronka of the Czech Republic at a crossroads with the red tourist route of Czech-Polish friendship (around Wielký Staw)
  • Blue hiking trail (Hřebenovka) from Horní Malá Úpa over the Forest Ridge (Kowarski Grzbiet) along the crossroads with the yellow hiking trail (top of the Board)
  • Yellow hiking trail from the Mokre Rozdroze pod Violíkem crossroads towards Sněžné jámy
  • Green hiking trail from the Mokre Rozdroze crossroads towards the Snow Pits to the Rozdroze pod Wielkim Szyszakiem crossroads
