Spindleruv Mlyn is situated at the confluence of the Elbe River and the Dolky creek and have about 1400 inhabitants. Unusual climate conditions and diversity of mountain nature caused that Spindleruv Mlyn became one of the most important and most visited centres in the Czech Republic. Wide choice of opportunities for winter sports and active relaxation are the main reasons that Spindleruv Mlyn is visited all the year round. Spindleruv Mlyn is not only an ideal place for all kinds of winter sports (especially skiing), but it also offers unique opportunities for hiking (mountain ridges are reachable by chair lifts Medvedin and Plan), biking and water sports.
The oldiest part of Spindleruv Mlyn is Svaty Petr (St. Peter) which became known in 16th century when silver was mined on the foothill of the Kozi ridges and Stoh. The Labska district was also mentioned (former Kraus chalets). Woodcutters from Alp countries lumbered for Vrchlabi manor where was the hetman Krystof from Gendorf. In the second half of the 19th century Spindleruv Mlyn started to become an important tourist and winter sports centre.
Spindleruv Mlyn offers a wide choice of sports activities all the year round. Ski area Spindleruv Mlyn is the most important winter centre in the Czech Republic. Spindleruv Mlyn is cosponsor of several world-imporant sports events every year.The whole area of Spindleruv Mlyn consists of several centres (Svaty Petr - Hromovka, Medvedin, Horni Misecky, LV Davidovka, LV Labska, ski lifts Horal and Krakonos). The ski area visit about 750 tousands of clients in the winter season. Skiareal Spindleruv Mlyn operates 4 cableways and 11 ski lifts in Spindleruv Mlyn and Horni Misecky, 25 ski slopes (85 % with artifical snow-making system). Skipass is valid for all cableways and ski lifts.
Sports area Svaty Petr operates tennis courts (possibility of tennis tournaments organizing) daily from Mai – October. There is also a new downhill and dual track for mountain bikes in the area. Race tracks for mountain bikes are open for training and it is possible to use the chair lift Plan. Areas Svaty Petr and Medvedin are starting points for paragliding. Summer bobsleigh track in Spindleruv Mlyn is suitable for active spending of free time for tourists and sports-minded people of all age groups. It is located in town district Bedrichov near the hotel Harmony, about 10 minutes walk from the town centre.
