21.01.2019 - 28.02.2019
When: January 17, 2019 - February 28, 2019
Where: Jilemnice, Masarykovo náměstí
The construction has a very long tradition in the town of Podkrkonoše. The first Krakonos on the square was built in 1909.
More than a hundred years ago, he did not sit as it is today, but he stood. Since then, Jilemnice has been celebrating every winter. An exception was the year 1912, when the ski resorts were held in the town and Krakonoš replaced the snow statue of Jan Buchar, the pioneer of skiing in Bohemia. Due to lack of snow, the Krakonos were not able to build in 2013 and 2016.
However, it is not easy to work - when it has to be frozen, the statue must be soaked with water to soften the snow and shape it. It works best when it is thawing and temperatures around zero. Work is fast and not so laborious.
Form of Krakonose 2019
Josef Dufek this year created one of the largest Krakonos in history.
The height is between seven and eight meters. From his predecessors he also differs from being naked, with boots only. He does not have dows or coats. The stick holds in the bare hand and the legs, the knees, are uncovered. Just as last year and this year, the noble ruler holds the hat in his hand on his knee and is without his favorite fajfka. That would quickly disappear during the heat.
Inspiration for this year's model was the sculptor and his helper Snow Krakonoš captured in a photo of 1941.
